Innovations drive the world forward

✦ ✦ ✦

If our planet had been created a year ago, humanity would have existed on the planet for ten minutes, and the industrial era would have started only two seconds ago. The internet would have existed for mere milliseconds. In those milliseconds, humanity has created innovations at an unbelievable speed. The invention of technologies such as smartphones, social media, and machine learning has fundamentally changed how we study, work, and live. And this rate of discovery is showing no signs of slowing down.

The fields of computing, artificial intelligence, and gene editing are skyrocketing. We truly live in exhilarating times -- yet not all is well. We face difficult concerns as a collective society, such as climate change, social inequality, and depression. I firmly believe that we need to adopt technologies to help combat such issues.

I am a software engineer with a Master's in Information Systems who codes, writes, and lectures. I've studied IT at universities in three countries, created solutions for some of the largest organizations in Sweden, performed talks for company leaderships', written an Amazon best-selling book, worked on Minecraft's UI, composed viral articles, built JS Is Weird, and created the open-source AI interface Limopola. I am the Head of AI of the byBrick Group.

Hey, are you a developer?

Try my popular, fast-paced JavaScript quiz! It's pretty fun, somewhat tricky, and unexpectedly educational. Most front-end developers usually get around 12/25 correct. Can you beat the average?

This Is Real AI

Did you know? The world's best flu vaccine was recently discovered with artificial intelligence (AI). Progressive organizations are using AI to invent new food recipes, perfume scents, and alcoholic beverages. Children in more than 200 cities across China are being tutored by AI. In the US, AI has secured political victories for both Barack Obama and Donald Trump. News articles are being written by AI autonomously. AI is being used to explore Mars, scan pizzas, automate warehouses, write music, pick apples, analyze phone conversations, remake video games, detect cancer, flip burgers, mimic world leaders, commit mass-surveillance, match job candidates, and find lost dogs.

These are the stories that This Is Real AI is all about. It's a non-technical book that makes AI easy to understand. One hundred diverse real-world implementations of AI are explained short-form and to the point, without any technical lingo. The book gives you information of value within minutes.

About me

You've seen some of my software projects, articles, book, and what I offer in terms of lectures. But I would also love to tell you a little bit about what I enjoy doing in my free time.

  • Traveling. Traveling the world is a big part of my life. I've lived in Sweden, China, and Japan, and I've traveled extensively around Europe and Asia in particular. When there's not a plague around, I usually visit at least one new country every month. I love to dive deep into new cultures, new people, and new mindsets. I know it sounds like a cliché, but encountering people from different corners of the world cures ignorance, opens up one's mind, and helps one understand not only other cultures, but also their own.
  • 🍻 Meeting cool people. Again, when there isn't a plague going around, I like to meet awesome people. I go to a lot of events. Over the years, I've made many incredible friends all around the world, so I travel a lot to meet up at their locales.
  • 🎸 Learning and creating. I am always learning something new, and I'm always building something new. Be it a new piece of technology, a new website, or a new book; I'm always up to something. I am creative as a person, and nothing makes me happier than fulfilling my creativity by learning or building something.
  • 🎮 Gaming. I am a very passionate gamer. Not only do I love to explore new worlds, but video games are also my go-to when I want to relax. Single-player games with immersive and atmospheric universes, a decent challenge, and rewarding gameplay are my preferences. Check out my top 75 favorite games list — I keep it updated.
